🏛️ Introducing the Timbisha Shoshone Tribal Council

Leadership Rooted in Tradition, Dedicated to the Future

The Timbisha Shoshone Tribal Council serves as the elected governing body of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe, entrusted with upholding tribal sovereignty, protecting cultural heritage, and guiding the community’s future through responsible leadership and development. The Tribal Council works to ensure the well-being, rights, and self-determination of the Timbisha people.

At the helm of the Council is Margaret Cortez, serving as Tribal Chairperson. A dedicated advocate for her community, Chairperson Cortez brings a steady hand and deep cultural knowledge to her leadership. Supporting her in executive leadership is Carmen ArmitageVice-Chairperson, who plays a key role in governance, strategic planning, and community outreach.

George Gholson serves as the Secretary-Treasurer, managing tribal records and overseeing financial matters with transparency and accountability. Rounding out the council are Bill Eddy and Jimmy-John Thompson, both serving as Tribal Council Members, contributing their voices and experience to decisions that affect the tribe’s present and future.

The Council meets regularly to address matters ranging from land use, economic development, and environmental stewardship to health, housing, and education initiatives. Each council member is elected by the General Council, which includes all voting tribal members aged 16 and older.

Together, the Tribal Council represents the strength, resilience, and sovereignty of the Timbisha Shoshone people—committed to preserving the past, protecting the land, and building a sustainable future for generations to come.
