The Tribal Council works to ensure the well-being, rights, and self-determination of the Timbisha people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">At the helm of the Council is&nbsp;<strong>Margaret Cortez<\/strong>, serving as&nbsp;<strong>Tribal Chairperson<\/strong>. A dedicated advocate for her community, Chairperson Cortez brings a steady hand and deep cultural knowledge to her leadership. Supporting her in executive leadership is&nbsp;<strong>Carmen Armitage<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Vice-Chairperson<\/strong>, who plays a key role in governance, strategic planning, and community outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>George Gholson<\/strong>&nbsp;serves as the&nbsp;<strong>Secretary-Treasurer<\/strong>, managing tribal records and overseeing financial matters with transparency and accountability. Rounding out the council are&nbsp;<strong>Bill Eddy<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Jimmy-John Thompson<\/strong>, both serving as&nbsp;<strong>Tribal Council Members<\/strong>, contributing their voices and experience to decisions that affect the tribe\u2019s present and future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Council meets regularly to address matters ranging from land use, economic development, and environmental stewardship to health, housing, and education initiatives. Each council member is elected by the&nbsp;<strong>General Council<\/strong>, which includes all voting tribal members aged 16 and older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Together, the Tribal Council represents the strength, resilience, and sovereignty of the Timbisha Shoshone people\u2014committed to preserving the past, protecting the land, and building a sustainable future for generations to
